INFORMATION ON BACKGROUND AND REVIEW OF FIRST DRAFTS OF SECTIONS OF PROPOSED NEW HUFFS UNION CHURCH INC FEDERATED CONSTITUTION
Since 2011 we have lived in shared ministry and dual membership at Huff’s Church, but legally
there are still 3 separate corporations of Huff’s UCC, Huff’s ELCA and Huff’s Union. Federation
simply is the legal process to merge Huffs ELCA and Huff’s UCC corporations into one remaining
Huff’s Union Church Corporation. All members of the federated Church are fully recognized by
both UCC and ELCA. The first step to legally merge is to prepare a new Constitution and Bylaws for
Huff’s Union Church Inc to operate as a federated Church.
After much prayerful consideration several sections of a proposed new federated constitution will be
available for all members to review and provide input. These are just first drafts of several
important sections on Membership, Congregational Meetings, Church Council, Officers, and
Organizations of the Church. Drafts will be available of each section as they are ready for
congregational review so please check back for new sections that will be added.
Although based on model constitutions from the ELCA and UCC as well as surrounding federated
churches, these particular sections have to be specifically written for Huff’s Union Church. There
likely will be further changes and clarifications recommended by church members, Council, legal
advisor, Synod and Conference. When all input is gathered and revisions made, a final proposal of
the entire federated constitution will be approved by the Church Council to be presented to the
Congregation for review and final congregational approval.
Your review of these first drafts and prayerful consideration is greatly appreciated. Please share
your input and questions with Joanne Benfield at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 610-845-2978
and leave a message with your phone number and best times to reach you.
