YOUTH GROUP HIKE On October 30, 2010, the youth group is sponsoring an all ages hike to The Pinnacle near Kempton, PA. The hike is about 2 miles each way on the well-marked and relatively easy Appalachian trail. While the trail is not too steep, it is up hill most of the way in and down hill most of the way out. The Pinnacle itself is an out- cropping of rock which provides an amazing 360 degree view of the surrounding area and is a wonderful place to eat lunch and experience God's world. There is a stream and a small cave to explore during the hike. We will meet at 8 a.m. in the church parking lot and car pool to the site. Bring a lunch, water, sun screen and good shoes with high socks. We hope to see you there! Please contact Gary Moll with any questions. A sign up sheet will be placed on the youth bulletin board in late September. Thank you.
CONFIRMATION Parents and mentors, please remember to sign up on the sheet hanging on the Sunday School bulletin board (in the hallway) for times you can be the second or third adult at Confirmation class. We practice a two-adult policy at Huff's, which means I cannot hold class without additional adults present. I also hope you will enjoy taking a few classes with our Confirmands. The Confirmation class and mentor retreat will be Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9 until 3 p.m. Mentors are asked to bring food to share for our lunch. Table service and beverages will be provided. First class: September 12 at 9:15 a.m. in the chapel basement. I need two to three adults to assist with classes. Confirmands should bring Bibles, participation credit worksheet, a pencil, and completed Luke worksheet. End of the month class: September 26 from 11:30 to 2 p.m. on the street level of church. Bring your own sack lunch and beverage. You will learn about the Exodus from Egypt, Passover and Holy Communion. Bring all confirmation materials. On this day you will receive your catechisms. Please bring your marked envelope with a check written to Huff's Union Church or cash for $10.75. Please see Pastor Kropa privately if you need scholarship assistance.
Class is cancelled if church is cancelled. If there is an evening meeting, class will be cancelled by 4:30 p.m. in bad weather. Call the pastor if you have concerns. (610-944-5923).
YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR CHURCH-RELATED EVENTS The Jane Kulkulka Memorial Scholarship fund welcomes donations in any amount and is used to help children of our members attend ELCA and UCC sponsored events. You may donate in honor of or in memory of a particular person, or to the glory of God. Please place your donation and information in an envelope and place this in the Sunday School mailbox. Having this fund allows us to help families with financial needs send their youth to special events. In the past, this fund enabled us to support one of our youth who went to Germany with the Northeastern PA Synod and one of our youth who went to South Africa with the Lancaster Seminar Leadership Now group.
**CLICK HERE for the Annual Youth Permission Form. This form will be used for any and all church-sponsored activities and events that your child may be involved with at Huff's. This means no more filling out a permission form over and over again throughout the year! Once Huff's has this form on file, it will be for the entire current year. If you would ever like to revoke permission, just contact the church office. Please complete the form and return it to the church office. These forms are also hanging on the Sunday School bulletin board located in the hallway near the Sunday School rooms.
The Shouting Stones Shine On! The teen Praise and Worship band at Huff's Church is growing, and making a name for themselves in the world of Praise and Worship. The name is "The Shouting Stones" and they perform current, popular Praise and Worship songs, as well as original songs written by them. If you have not witnessed their performance yet, they will be performing again in various functions and worship services for Huff's Church. If you are a teen in grades 6 or 7 and up, and you would like to join us in Praise and Worship, please speak to Mr. Fritz VonHummel, Mrs. Stacy Whalen, or Ms. Julie Brought who are the managers/advisers of The Shouting Stones.
